This week I’ve been taking my cues from the bowerbird, arranging objects as an invitation to relationship. Since I’ve lost my taste for making singular objects, I’ve been setting up my studio as a seduction parlor for cohort conversation, hopefully producing future potentialities for creative acts. To build on this exploration of formlessness becoming form, immaterial materializing, and emergent ecologies, I set up a series of Opportunities As Projects written out on some timesheets (quantifiable, haha). In the next two weeks of the residency I plan to explore materiality while engaging (albeit sideways) with my present environment and its attendant particulars:
1. Make meaningful connection with my peers, faculty, Chicago folk, and the city.
2. Alchemize the residue of these exchanges into forms that support my livelihood.
On days like today when I have a clear energy and desire for an action, I follow it. On days that I don’t, I plan to rotate through my fourteen projects. I’d like this micro season to materialize in an accumulation of gestures:
bowers (studio, beach, virtual)
mapping of these
documentation of movement (video, audio)
paintings/sculpture for alchemizing
